Lee Valley Peony Support
This
is the best peony support made and we make it. Immodest but true. What
makes it so effective is that you install it only when it is needed and
it is fully height adjustable. Drive the 4' long solid steel bar into
the ground next to the plant, open the 18" diameter ring, put it around
the plant and click it into the support clamp. The support clamp can be
adjusted to exactly the height you want, to give you the best spread but
still keep your peonies well supported during wind or rain storms. 1/4"
steel is used for the ring and 1/2" for the bar; both have a dark green,
tough powder-coat polyester finish. The clamp is made of powder-coated
aluminum with solid brass fittings – a rustproof combination. It will
last for generations. Made in Canada. |
Assembly Instructions
This peony support is used to
keep peonies from being blown over or battered down with the rain. It is
made up of three pieces. Please make sure you have all three pieces before
attempting assembly:
1) 4' support post
2) 18" hoop
3) adjustable collar
with brass knob.
a) With the hoop
pulled off the collar, slide the collar onto the post from the end with
the hole in it. The other end is sometimes slightly larger because of a
paint ring. Position it about halfway up the post and finger tighten the
knob to hold it in position.
NOTE: If a collar is too tight to slide freely, even when the
bolt is loose, remove the bolt and spread the collar with a wedge or
screwdriver. Remove the wedge and test check the fit of the collar. Repeat
if necessary.
b)
Take the post and place one end on the ground approximately 9" away from
the center of the peony you want to support. Pound the post into the
ground using a hammer. (We recommend that you protect the paint on the top
of the post by holding a piece of wood on top of the post when hammering.)
c)
Take the hoop section, pull it open and place it around the bottom of the
peony. Slip the two angled end pieces into the two holes in the top of the
collar. Make sure they seat firmly and completely into the holes.
d)
Adjust the height of the hoop to
suit the appearance of the plant by loosening the brass knob and sliding
the collar up or down as necessary.
Occasional maintenance will
make your Peony Support last for generations. Store indoors when not in use,
paint exposed metal, and oil the clamp bolt when necessary.
